Who Encourages You to Keep Fighting?
I just finished watching Creed II. I’m partial to the Rocky movies of my childhood, but Sylvester Stallone was smart and savvy to continue the heroic boxing story for the next generation. Creed’s Adonis received the same instruction that Rocky himself received from his manager when he was being pummeled in the ring. After wiping his bleeding brow and spraying some water in his mouth, Rocky tells the young Adonis, “Get back out there and finish the fight!”
Maybe because I am a guy, I like that imagery. But all of us feel from time to time like life is beating us up. And what helps me is to have someone who cares enough to encourage me and send me back out to face another day. For me, it describes the essence of a healthy relationship. A place to be vulnerable. A place to receive healing. A place to be encouraged to get back in the fight.
